Oh, Charleston! Oh, Creative at Heart! What can I say?
We’re currently sitting at the Frances Marion Hotel in downtown Charleston, South Carolina – surrounded by the industry’s top leaders, boss ladies, world shakers, and encouragers. Not to mention all of the attendees who are also movin’ and shakin’! Day two is now in progress and so much of the information we’re soaking up this weekend is full of action items that will be rolled out and put into place as soon as I get back to Maryland.
It’s refreshing to surround yourself with like-minded people who have the same core beliefs as you do! I’m able to hear all about their triumphs and failures knowing that I can totally relate to the joys and heartbreak that is felt SO strongly when you’re a business owner. We all pour our souls into our businesses and wear our hearts on our sleeves.
For those of you who don’t know me that well I must confess…I’m also a tried-and-true introvert. The core of me wants to be at home, in my pj’s, cuddling with my family on the couch every night. The height of my anxiety this weekend has been out-of-control. And Sunday evening we were asked, “Why are you here?”. Trying to dig deeper than providing a surface answer that sounds pretty, I’ve been seriously challenged to figure out why I do what I do.
One of these days I’ll talk openly about my struggles, as I fight through gripping anxiety. But so far this conference has forced me into looking much deeper into myself as a mother, a wife, and a small business owner.
There is a reason I found myself in the seat I’m in right now. So, this weekend I’m working hard at figuring out what that reason looks like for me. I know it may not happen overnight and I’m totally accepting of that. Every day is a journey and it’s exciting and exhilarating! It’s also A LOT of hard work.
