The very first wedding I covered on my own was a good lesson for me to learn what items I needed to bring with me! After being on my feet for 8 hours in shoes that didn’t fit well, I quickly learned having band-aids in my bag was necessary. The more weddings I covered the more I began to see the need for several other items. Almost always we’re scrambling for hair pins, hair spray, mints, or safety pins. Once the realization hit me that I’m not only a photographer – I’m also one who spends the entire wedding day with the bride, I knew instantly that being prepared for her needs throughout the day was just as important as taking care of my own. In no time flat I had a little makeup bag full of items I bring along with me to all of my weddings. And there have been numerous times where I’ve reached for that little bag!
It really IS a survival kit!! Here’s what’s included:
- band-aids
- Advil
- Tide stick
- safety pins/bobby pins
- hair ties
- mini hairspray canister
- tummy medicines
- double sided tape
- chapstick
- tissues
- lint remover roller
- small bills and change for tolls and parking
- makeup remover wipes/baby wipes
- mini sewing kit
- Q-tips
- mints/chewing gum
Over the course of the upcoming years I’m sure I’ll have the opportunity to add to this little kit, finding a need to carry along something else. But for now, I don’t need much and what I have on-hand has been very helpful! Most of the items are the travel sized packs you can find at the drugstore in the little bins. You can travel lightly with them if you purchase the smaller items. And everything here fits in one small bag I carry inside of my styling kit. (More about my styling kit and what that consists of, coming soon! Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming blog post.)
