For Photographers: Oka-B Ballet Flats Review

The Business of Photography

September 3, 2015

First of all, I need to open this blog post by letting you guys know that I am in NO way being compensated by Oka-B for this post. I’m not sharing this information with you in hopes of getting anything for free from the company either. I AM sharing this post with you guys because I have been fighting a long battle with trying to find shoes that are comfortable for long-wear when shooting weddings. Especially since I’m on my feet for the better part of 8 hours (or more) per wedding and I have sensitive skin. For a long time it felt like I would never find a pair of shoes that wouldn’t leave me with crippling back pain or horrible blisters by the end of the night.

One day I was scrolling through Facebook when I saw an ad for Oka-B ballet flats. Usually I flip right past those ads because I have never come across one that was selling a product that I would be really interested in purchasing. However, my interest was piqued and I clicked on the link.

Remember back in the day when you were a kid and you owned your most favorite pair of jellies?! You know the kind! The brightly colored shoes that felt like butter on your feet, that sometimes had glitter on the inside, and went perfectly with everything you wore. Well, these are jellies for grown-ups! Get ready, my friends!!! Your mind will be blown! I purchased a pair of black Oka-B ballet flats and since I wasn’t breaking the bank to get them, I thought there was no harm in trying them out. I’ve been wearing my black pair of Oka-B‘s for exactly a year now so I’ve put these babies through the test. Now…here’s my honest review.

Five Reasons Why I love My Oka-B Flats

  1. They aren’t so expensive that it makes you have buyer’s remorse after making the purchase! My bank account thanked me after buying these babies. And the price was very appealing since I was giving these a shot for the first time. So, if I ultimately ended up hating them it wouldn’t absolutely kill me knowing I was now broke AND without a pair of good shoes.
  2. I have sensitive skin and these shoes don’t eat my feet. Trust me when I say that I’ve tried all kinds of flats! I have purchased ballet flats from everywhere including Payless Shoes to Nordstrom. I have paid anywhere from $8 to $200 for a single pair of shoes – crossing my fingers and praying I wasn’t wasting money. And it never failed! I would ALWAYS end up walking blisters onto my heels or my sciatica pain would flare up by the time a wedding reception would roll around. I don’t have time to be dealing with the inconvenience and pain of having bad shoes!
  3. Not only are they super flexible and comfortable, THEY’RE JELLIES! Just the novelty of having the chance to wear jellies again makes me happy. It brings me back to my childhood days. But these shoes aren’t just jellies. They’re jellies for adults. The grown-up, comfortable, stylish, professional version of the jellies you wore as a kid. They come in ALL kinds of colors to match any outfit you have. They even sell some with embellishments on the toe, which by-the-way, are SUPER cute! They bend and give when I walk around, they don’t rub against my ankles, when I’m crouching in the floor photographing details – these shoes are flexible and giving enough to keep me comfortable.
  4. They’re waterproof!!!! You clean them with a soft, wet cloth. They don’t get ruined if you walk in mud, sand, or water. Need I say more?!
  5. They’re made in the good ‘ol USA. I’m all for supporting local, American jobs. If I can purchase something that I know was made here on our own soil, something that was crafted and put together by someone living in our country who is supporting their family, then I’m more than happy to support them by purchasing their products. I now have three pairs of Oka-B flats and I plan on purchasing a couple more. They’re so comfortable that they can be worn in all kinds of weather and conditions, so I see nothing wrong with having more than one pair!

There you go, folks!

Take it from me – I’ve been searching for a pair of comfortable shoes for a long time. Now that I’ve found them I am super excited to share them with you! I hope you guys found this post helpful and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts! If you have questions about the shoes or if you own a pair and love them, I would love to hear from you!! Feel free to leave a comment below.

HAPPY SHOOTING!
