First, I want to say that this black-tie affair at The Virginian Hotel in Lynchburg, Virginia will always be one that I’ll remember.
While on vacation Scott and Laura began talking about the idea of getting married, when it should happen, and where. Dates were tossed in the air as “what if’s” but nothing felt quite right. Life did what it does, and got in the way of solidifying any plans and almost a year later they agreed to revisit the location of their first date. The Virginian Hotel – and Lynchburg as a whole – is special to them. So it felt natural to go back.
A date was locked in. A wedding planner was found. And the preparations began. But this wasn’t going to be like any other wedding. This was going to be a surprise.
A welcome dinner (of sorts) turned into a surprise marriage ceremony for their closest. Scott’s uncle officiated the ceremony just after gasps of surprises and cheers, under a white tent nestled in the mountains of a family property Laura grew up summering. Dinner and dancing followed by champagne toasts and big bear hugs. (This group – they’re huggers!)
The next day guests were invited to The Virginian Hotel for a black-tie reception to end the weekend with a true celebration. Everyone showed up dressed to the nines and party they did. It was my honor to be present to witness a love like this one.
