Oh, Charleston! You have had my heart for a long time and coming to visit you is NEVER a regret!
When I met with Kate and Rob for their wedding consultation they mentioned that they were Marylanders with most of their family in Maryland (where their wedding will be held). However, they lived in Charleston and wanted to know if it would be possible to have their engagement session held in South Carolina. They didn’t have to ask me twice!
These two high school sweethearts absolutely shined together, and I knew instantly when I met them they were the real deal. In fact, Rob said that he knew Kate was “the one” during their college years. And I could tell they were as in love, if not more, than those younger years when everything is exciting and brand new!
As Kate and I got to know each other a bit better I was so surprised to discover that we have a lot in common, especially when it comes to having a deep desire to want to keep things on schedule and moving properly. So, I couldn’t help but laugh (to the point of tears!) when they told me their engagement story! If you ask Kate, she’ll probably tell you that she ruined it – but personally, I don’t think she ever could have. Rob is head-over-heels in love with her and was determined to ask her to be his forever. During a trip to Amsterdam, he thought he had his chance until Kate refused to stop to “rest”, delaying every opportunity Rob had to propose. Eventually, they made it home from their trip and he came up with an even better plan to pop the question! This time, all of their friends were involved.
You see, in Charleston, the thing to do mid-morning is brunch. And in true Charleston fashion, Rob and Kate spend most of their Sundays with their friends for brunch. Because this was their norm, Kate never suspected a thing.
As I’m sure you’re aware, the weather in May in Charleston can be quite warm. So their brunch in mid-morning eventually turned into some time in the pool with Kate and her girlfriends. The day stretched on and they found themselves cooking out that night. Towards the end of a perfect Charleston evening surrounded by their closest friends, while Kate began to clean up from the day’s events, Rob had something up his sleeve.
I’ve been told that it took quite a lot of coaxing to get Kate back outside, with Rob’s friends trying everything they could think of to convince her to head back out there. She finally caved and went outside to find Rob sitting alone by a bonfire. Once she joined him by the fire he dropped to one knee. I’m sure it felt as if time stood still for Kate as she wiped away tears of happiness and surprise! And once she began to call her friends to tell them the news she realized most of them were still there, popping out from their hiding spots!
Whenever you’ve spent time with Kate and Rob you’re sure to know instantly how big Rob’s heart is for Kate. And my cheeks hurt by the end of our portrait session from smiling so much, because Kate is so gentle and loving with him. Their upcoming October wedding in Maryland is sure to be an elegant affair with plenty of laughs and storytelling, sprinkled with lots of romantic moments. I absolutely cannot wait to witness them tie the knot!
To say that it has been an honor working with them so far is a complete understatement. I have laughed to the point of tears and smiled until my cheeks hurt. I’m sure to cry during their first dance as husband and wife!
