The day has arrived!!! Today we’re sharing Lauren’s and Daniel’s wedding images and I felt like I’ve been waiting on this day for a looong time! I met them both almost a full year ago and we met again for their fall engagement portrait session, held in and around the same property where they dreamed of getting married. While we walked over fallen trees and climbed through tall grass they showed me around the farm and told me a little bit about the history of it. It was the perfect introduction for me to imagine exactly what they had planned for this big day.
Several things occurred on their wedding day that I wasn’t expecting.
- It didn’t rain! This was the start of Maryland’s two-week-long streak of non-stop rain and I’ll be honest, I was a bit concerned. I knew they were planning an outdoor ceremony for their friends and family and I prayed for several days the rain would stay away. Aside from a few sprinkles here and there, we were blessed with perfect weather!
- The girls were escorted to the ceremony site (that sits on the top of a hill behind Daniel’s parent’s home) on a large flatbed pulled by a tractor. Lauren told me they were planning this awesome entrance but I have never seen this done before and it was an amazing surprise to see how perfectly they pulled it off.
- The entrance to their ceremony was a last-minute decision thrown together by their family. Not too long before their wedding day a barn on their family’s property collapsed. Before carrying away the damaged walls they noticed that they could probably save a large chunk of it and repurpose it for the use of the ceremony location’s entrance. Genius!!!! Along with their rustic decor, this old barn door/wall provided the most perfect focal point throughout the night and was used by guests (and the couple) for photo ops.
I also learned that night that this farm has been in Daniel’s family for more than 100 years. Throughout the legacy of his family, several couples exchanged their vows here. But, I was told, that none of those couples held their ceremony AND reception here. Meaning Daniel and Lauren were the first couple to host their entire wedding day on this farm. What a legacy to have!
